question 3
The interesting topic to me was facial expressions. I have always been interested in facial expression because to me they tell a lot. If you can tell someones facial expression and interpret it you can understand their verbal message even better or figure out their verbal message is actually not accurate to what they really want to say. The book talks about from culture to culture their is certain facial expression that reach all the way across and their is certain that are different or the intensity is different. Smiling and crying are universal facial expression but then the amount might differ from culture to culture or when it is acceptable or not. When the book talked about gloating and liking gifts or not a lot of personal examples came to my mind of when I was in that situation and adjusting my facial expression just to not offend the other person.

Hey 49ers!
ReplyDeleteI must admit that the concept of facial expressions is indeed very interesting. Sometimes, I try and hold my facial expressions because Imo either angry or nervous because I dont want others to see my emotions. I think it happens mostly before I perform a speech in class. If I forget a concept during my speech, I try not to show my classmates that I'm nervous by trying to control my facial expressions. Afterwards, to my surprise, I finish the speech and ask a friend, "did I look nervous" and they reply , "yes". Facial expressions are very hard to control. It is also an extremely interesting subject to study which is why I can see why you chose to write about this concept in your post. I also agree how you can see a difference in facial expressions all across the world. I have a russian friend who once explained that if I was to ever to go to Russia, the first thing I would notice is that everyone doesn't smile, even when their is optimism floating around. Your post was great I enjoyed reading it.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that facial expressions can tell a lot about what is going on with a persons mood. My husband for example when he is mad involuntarily twitches his lip. I then usually make fun of him for doing that and it normally clears the tension. I talked about personal space in my blog because I find that is it something people often forget about. If I can smell your lunch then you are too close. I hate when I am shopping at a store like Wal Mart or Ross because I find them to be the personal space invasion capitals of the world. I think personal space just like facial expressoions are also cultural. Good job!
